I consider myself to be a representational painter, though what I aim to capture is feeling in addition to what I see. I paint intuitively from direct experience, with everything depending on being alert and present in the moment. I often paint en plein air and have been known to paint from my car when weather doesn’t permit me to paint outdoors. I also paint in my studio but always from observation.
Ultimately, a painting will emerge as a byproduct of the painting experience and ends as a symbolic distillation of impulse, observation and response. Once I have said all that I want to say in a painting, I stop.
I’ve been painting and making oil paintings for more than 20 years. I have studied occasionally at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, but I am largely self-taught, having put together my own educational path held together by my dogged determination and love of art. This website is a way for me to tell the story of my personal art journey with the hope that it will help others on their own journey.
I currently show work at Morpeth Contemporary in Hopewell and have had my work included in exhibitions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Washington, and Connecticut. I live and work in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. My paintings have been selected for awards nine times to date.
