Who you have always been

In a recent conversation with a fellow artist, I lamented the fact that I couldn’t paint like artist X or artist Y. I think most of us have these feelings of jealousy mixed with aspiration towards certain artists whose work we admire. But then my friend said something that I found quite profound: You are not that artist.

The drawing above is of my beloved pet rabbit, Pancake. He likes to lay in the sunspots on the floor and will usually sit long enough for me to make a quick sketch. Animals and wildlife bring joy into my life. I’m pleased to be part of the Traditional Artists Show, a group exhibit featuring myself and other area artists, that supports the Aark Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education.
